Importantly, Harbor Village believes that in addition to the need for good nutrition and social services, mature and underserved populations have a need for primary and mental health services. Data demonstrates that older adults with mental health problems are more likely to seek help in primary care facilities than in mental health settings. The primary care physician plays a pivotal role as the first health care contact for an aging population and needs to work closely with a mental health provider to achieve positive health outcomes. To achieve this goal, Harbor Village focuses on integrating primary care and mental health services through a coordinated network of care. Married 42 years, three children all with grandchildren living across the country and now I'm a widow. Not sure what life will be like without him by my side. Life has changed. How will I cope?"
Harbor Village fully appreciates the impact that chronic disease, loss of a loved one and other conditions can have on the mental health of all people, particularly older adults. Therefore, our programs will be focused on health, wellness and collaboration between primary care and behavioral health providers to negate the impact of chronic disease and depression. Services to be provided include primary care, preventive health and wellness services, and mental health services through a single entry point and co-location of providers. Quite a Ride. I guess you could say we Baby Boomers have had quite a ride. But I am not ready for the ride to be over. My business knowledge, people skills and drive are as strong as when I first opened my business 30 years ago. What new challenges can I tackle?"
Harbor Village leadership is committed to thinking creatively concerning the changing nature of senior and social services. The “baby boomer” retirees will have different needs than those of the upcoming “Greatest Generation” retirees who currently comprise most of this community. Harbor Village seeks to create innovative programs to address the needs of future retirees. This model should capitalize on many of the components and opportunities presented by new research, changing demographic needs, and changing cultural and societal situations. Harbor Village is committed to strive for innovation in our design, programming and services today and tomorrow. And at its heart the Harbor Village concept is about taking decisive, meaningful action to positively impact people's lives. In addition to the social, wellness and healthcare services to be pioneered by this concept, its impact reaches far into the regional socio-economic arena. Unemployment is particularly high in Benton County...10.3% as of January 2009. And almost 1/2 of the area workforce leaves the County every morning for work outside Benton County. One premise guiding the thinking of Harbor Village is that the "new retirees" will be looking for their next challenge, a new chapter in both their social and professional lives. By creating an environment where those interested in starting or building on their career experience can get assistance and support for their dreams, we will be able to build new businesses which utilize the skilled workforce in the County. |
